Projects on the Horizon
Highways 169 & 73
When
it comes to economic development, there is no shortage of available space. Room
to grow, along with an educated workforce and financial incentives, is the
region's chief attraction. As part of the CIRI comprehensive plan, areas ripe
for development (link to map) have been identified. Property on either side of
Highway 169 between Hibbing
and Buhl is ideal for industrial and commercial development, offering easy
access to transportation and substantial acreage. Highway 73, leading east of Hibbing to the Chisholm-Hibbing
Airport, has been zoned
and fitted with infrastructure conducive to economic development. Strategic
projects, such as a wind energy plant and JOBZ designation, make this corridor
attractive to business and a key to economic development. In time, the corridor
will be home to a motorsports park and possible law enforcement training
facility. The development of a CIRI wastewater treatment plant nearly doubles
the regional water treatment capability, opening the door to expanded commercial,
industrial and residential expansion.
